Why is Dean Koontz always in the horror section? He seems more sci-fi, to me. A good deal of his novels involve aliens, supernatural powers of science gone wrong.

His stuff isn't exactly scary. No, I agree.. he doesn't belong in horror. Maybe in general fiction, but not in horror.

The most irritating thing is every one says he is like Stephen King, which is completely absurd.

King: psycological thrillers and such.

Koontz: Humans morphing into werewolves and then something like "The Blob"

It's really bothersome, and enjoyable to rant about.

I stopped reading Koontz, actually. I put down three of his books, so I called it quits. I think the last one was that Midnight Carnival one. Something about a mutant baby and a bunch of pregnant teens.

There is some fucked books.
I find most novels tend to be hit and miss. More often then not a complete miss.

Why the christ is he on a best sellers list?

No, can't be it, that's the reason for romance best sellers.

Romance can be called "ladies porn".

Two buddies once went and read out one of the worst ones out loud in chapters

I remember a friend of mine reading a VC Andrews in class. She turned red, I asked her what was up. She showed me this page about a little girl getting railed. Something about "hot cum". It made me blush, too. Sometimes I'm amazed by the shit your library stocks. Like, some of those mangas are pretty pornographic.

I know. I've actually complained, Our fiction sucks, we have nothing in any decent shape and they are buying porn for the school so dorks and horny loners can have something to jerk off to at night.

The library is the truly worst part of the school. You know what's worse, those creepy dorks who read the worst of the manga actually are succeeding in getting the school to order more.

Seriously, our school has walls of Koontz, Andrews and Manga. There is nothing of any literary substance. Maybe a few john Grisham books and one Steven King, that freaking it.

Although Andrews is good if you want to feel better about your own writing ability.

Haha, yeah. They got rid of almost half of the nonfiction section while I was working in the library. I was disappointed. Asimov's science books and Farley Mowat's wild Canadian story books were hit the hardest. Thick books were taken out in favour of thin books with lots of pictures. They took out some junk, like von Daniken's crazy "what if God was an astronaut" books.. but those were fun ones.. they should have left them for the people like me who get a kick out of things like that.

Daniken is a bit of a doof. His first book was okay, it made a lot of interesting points and questions. Basically his point was that there was probably alien contact in olden times and the people interpreted the contact as being from the gods. It made more sense to me than "there's this all-powerful guy, always watching, always planning".

I'm just annoyed sometimes at how little that school makes room for intelligent people. Everything's dummied down. The classes are dummied down, the books are dummied down.. the teachers tend to be jerks or as dumb as some of their dummied-down students. I think that the only class that hasn't been compromised is math.. I don't think they dare to make that any less challenging.
